BrightView selected Planters Unlimited to enhance the rooftop communal space at the V Lofts, a striking five-story residential building situated on 13th Avenue between Market and G Streets in San Diego’s vibrant East Village District. This new ground-up development spans three-quarters of a city block and features 208 thoughtfully designed mid-rise apartments—including studios, one- and two-bedroom units—along with two retail spaces at street level. With extensive common areas planned both on the ground floor and the rooftop deck, the project presented an exciting opportunity to create an elevated outdoor environment that supports community engagement while reflecting cutting-edge design trends. Planters Unlimited provided a series of custom large-scale, modern fiberglass planters finished in a white matte, perfectly complementing the building’s contemporary architecture and the stunning views of downtown San Diego.

Our planters were filled with large, drought-tolerant grasses that embody a biophilic, desert-inspired palette—an ideal choice for the Southern California climate. This design approach seamlessly blends the trendy industrial aesthetic with an eco-friendly sensibility, fostering a welcoming, nature-infused atmosphere on the rooftop. Leveraging our expertise in custom fabrication, Planters Unlimited delivered durable, lightweight planters engineered specifically for rooftop conditions, ensuring longevity and ease of installation.
