Moderna HQ
Cambridge, MA
At Moderna’s global headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, biophilic design was a guiding principle—particularly in the creation of a dramatic, six-story atrium featuring a crystalline wall and the lush “veggie stair” filled with live greenery. To support this vision, Mark Richey Woodworking designed custom wood planters and turned to Planters Unlimited to supply 446 precision-engineered fiberglass liners. These liners played a critical role in maintaining waterproofing, supporting irrigation, and ensuring long-term durability—especially as they were bolted into the wall without base support, requiring exceptional structural integrity and exacting dimensions to fit seamlessly into pre-built wood planters.
Planters Unlimited met the challenge with custom-molded triangular and trapezoidal liners reinforced for direct wall mounting and equipped with integrated irrigation and drainage systems. Designed to protect the wood while providing a clean, sleek finish, the liners helped bring Moderna’s nature-driven workspace to life. The project earned multiple design awards and stands as a benchmark for sustainable, health-focused environments. This collaboration underscores our expertise in delivering precise, customizable solutions for large-scale architectural installations where aesthetics, function, and performance must align flawlessly.
